The origin of this renowned University goes back to the Year 1882 in Lahore. After independence, it was re-located at Chandigarh. The Campus of the University was designed by Monsieur Pierre Jeanneset under the guidance of the renowned architect Le Corbusier.

The University was incorporated for imparting education in the fields of Arts, Literature, Science, Commerce, and Business Management. Guided by the motto 'Tamso Ma Jyotyrgamaya'.

The University has, for the last 50 years, continued to create beacons of light that have set benchmarks of performance and efficiency for others to follow.

The University has the distinction of giving to the nation a number of academicians, administrators, scientists, and business leaders. Our graduates have also made their mark on the international scene with Kalpana Chawla, the US astronaut, being one of the examples.
